If you’re thinking of taking up MMA as a sport, and you want to take it seriously, you want to make sure that you’re well equipped and prepared. The main purpose of the MMA Gear is to protect the user from injury, and as you’re going to be experiencing a lot of physical contact and impact, you need to make sure that you have everything right – or you’ll put yourself out of the fight!
Mouthguards
This one should be obvious, you need to protect your mouth and teeth to stop yourself from gaining serious injury. Whether you’re sparring or having a serious fight, you don’t want to risk having your teeth damaged, or even possibly biting your tongue. It might not seem like a big deal, but if you bite your tongue hard enough, that’s a trip to the hospital!
If you’re just starting, going for a softer mouthguard might be better, as it provides some basic level of protection, and you’ll be able to adjust to it much easier.
Headgear
Just like a mouthguard, you want to make sure that you’re not going to sustain any serious damage to your head. This is something that you absolutely shouldn’t skip out on, and most gyms will have it as a requirement for legal reasons. Head damage can be permanent, and you want to make sure you have padded headgear to prevent that!
Ear guards
While you’re not exactly risking permanent damage to your ears if you take a hit there, it’s going to hurt a lot more than most spots on the body. Your ears are fragile, and you want to make sure you do your best to protect them!
MMA gloves
It’s a given that you need to protect your hands when you want to practice MMA Gear fighting, without them, you can’t fight. You’ll still need proper practice to make sure that you don’t injure yourself, but the padding on the hands is a great way to help yourself remain safe. Fracturing or breaking your hand is no joke, and you’ll find that it will hinder your ability to do anything for a long period of time.
Shin protectors
Just like gloves, you’re going to be dealing with a lot of hits in the shin area, and despite it being one of the strongest bones in the body, nothing is unbreakable. You can’t prevent bruises, but it will help to protect you at least enough to keep you in fighting shape!
A rash guard
If a fighting sport is something that you’re not used to, then you’re going to want to invest in a rash guard. It can be tough on the skin, all of the physical contact and rough treatment, and it can leave you feeling quite sore with all of the friction burns. It’s not going to prevent you from fighting if you’re left with rashes, but you’ll at least have an easier time being comfortable outside of the fight. There’s no need to risk your comfort when there are easy ways to prevent it.
